It
has been set up by the associates of the “Centre for research and
documentation of the landing and the battle of Anzio” and it is
divided into four sections: American, British, German and Italian.
There are some showcases and cabinets where
uniforms, weapons, decorations, documents, battle plans,
photographs of veterans and everyday objects are on show: everything
is strictly genuine.
| The
museum comprises a library, photographic archives, a tape and
newspaper library, a collection of flags, period prints and
motor vehicles, which enrich the already remarkable collection
that is always increasing more and more through many donations
coming from museums and veterans associations of the once
belligerent countries. Many findings come directly from the seabed
of Anzio where, at different profondities lie airplanes, battle
and freighter ships, landing crafts, mini-submarines, often with
all their crew, like the British destroyers “Janus” and
“Spartan” and the American hospital ship “St. David”.

 |
It
is not a matter, as some might believe, of the usual, anonymous, cold
collection of rubbish, on the contrary it is a genuine, exciting,
instructing walk through history and it intends above all to
exalt peace and condemn war.
 |
It
is a pause for reflection and a message to the younger generations
who fortunately have not known the horrors of that time, to the old
people and to the survivors of the Battle of Anzio so that,
remembering the hard days, they will keep fighting in defence of
peace and democracy.
