The
reserve is an example of Mediterranean wood with a supremacy of
evergreens: ilex (about 70%), cork-oaks, heather bushes,
strawberry-trees; in the most humid areas we can find alders, poplars,
aspens, bay-oaks.
| It
is also rich in fauna, composed of nine species of reptiles, five
of amphibians, fifty of birds and various mammals. On the reserve
there are many of examples of turtles being protected and these
offer a nice welcome to all visitors.

 |
The
numerous sulphurous sources, in which swimming is forbidden, are
caused by volcanic gasses raising up from the peripheral roots of
Latium volcan.
 |
In
land we can see several remains of Roman constructions and a
sighting tower, erected in 1560, as defence against Saracen
incursions. The
reserve is an uncontaminated oasis where it is still important to
protect the naturalistic landscapes that fortunately man has not
yet corroded and which he jealously protects. |
